On the honour of being human

This is an extract from the end of one of Abdullah Bosnevi's longer works, entitled Qurrat ʿayn al-shuhūd wa-mir'āt 'arā'is ma'ānī al-ghayb wa-l-jūd ('The Freshness of the Eye of Witnessing and the Mirror of the Bridal Beds of Meanings of the Unseen and the Generosity'). This is a line-by-line commentary on a 436-verse Tā'iyya poem (rhyming in tā') by Ibn 'Arabi. For a summary of this work, see Beneito and Hirtenstein, Patterns of Contemplation (pp. 110–124).
